Hierbij wat filmtips van Nieu Zeelandse films, die naast de bekende Lord of the Rings en the Piano, ook zeker de moeite waard zijn!
Second hand Wedding
Must see, door recencenten omschreven als 'A delighful slice of Kiwi Life'
Heerlijke film waarbij ik (en bijna iedereen in het publiek) heb zitten lachen, huilen en wel moest klappen na afloop. Hartverwarmend en echt een aanrader als je 'm kunt krijgen in NL!
Every mother wants the best for their daughter?s wedding. And second-hand doesn?t have to mean second best, does it?
Second-Hand Wedding is a heart-warming tale set in a time when TradeMe and e-bay threaten the primeval urge for a first-hand crack at the second-hand.
Second-Hand Wedding follows the fortunes of the Rose family, who live on the idyllic Kapiti Coast, where the sunsets are spectacular, parking is still free and bargains abound.
Jill and Brian Rose are happily married and looking forward to their daughter, primary school teacher Cheryl, following in their footsteps when long-time boyfriend, mechanic Stew, proposes.
Clouds gather, however, when it becomes clear that Cheryl has issues with her mother?s voracious bargain hunting, which she fears will ruin her wedding.
Covering up the truth has consequences for everyone involved. Will Cheryl be able to get out of the hole she?s dug for herself?
Eagle versus Shark
Deze film kwam uit op het Rotterdams Filmfestival in Februari 2007 en hebben wij gezien vlak voordat we hier naar toe kwamen.
Two lonely misfits embark on a bizarre journey of romance and revenge after bonding at a "come as your favorite animal" costume party in Academy Award nominee Taika Waititi's quirky romantic comedy. Jarrod (Jemaine Clement) is a clerk at the local electronics store. Lily (Loren Horsley) is a shy cashier who earns her keep at the local Meaty Boy. After getting fired from her job, an emboldened Lily determines to put on her favorite shark costume, shed her inhibitions, and attend Jarrod's annual "come as your favorite" animal bash. In the following days, a tentative romance begins to develop between Lily and Jarrod, and when Jarrod announces plans to travel back to his hometown and seek revenge on an old nemesis, Lily decides to follow along for the ride. As Jarrod begins to set his diabolical plan into motion, Lily finds herself stranded in an unfamiliar new town and surrounded by a disorienting collection of eccentrics.
Een aantal maanden later pas draaide de film ook in NZ.
Toen we de film voor de 2e keer keken, bij Kim & Jasper thuis in Days Bay, ontdekten we tot onze grote verassing dat de hometown van Jarrod TITAHI BAY blijkt te zijn in de film! We herkenden de straten, de groene heuvel waar we op uitkijken en natuurlijk de baai, vanuit waar je ons huis gewoon kunt zien liggen.
Seperation City
Nog een leuke kiwifilm, deze is opgenomen in Wellington
Separation City is a bittersweet comedy drama about falling out of love for the very first time. A painful lesson about how unrequited love lasts forever and while requited love comes with a use-by date. A story about courtship, mateship and jumping ship. A film for anyone who has ever been in a relationship and woken up beside someone they once adored beyond measure and thought even fleetingly, is this it?
Brideflight
Natuurlijk ook niet te missen, over vier jonge mensen die in 1953 naar NZ emigreren. Mooie beelden, mooie mensen en grappig genoeg soms ook heel herkenbaar.
Bride Flight is the story of the Last Great Air Race in 1953, from London to Christchurch, which carried 26 young Dutch brides-to-be on their way to join their fiances already settled in New Zealand.The film centres on the women: Ada, Marjorie and Esther, who reunite 50 years after the historic flight.
Flight of the Conchords
Heel anders, maar ook heel leuk
Maak kennis met Jemaine Clement en Bret McKenzie alias Flight of the Conchords. Ze mogen dan ?het op 3 na populairste folkparodie duo van Nieuw-Zeeland? zijn, nu zijn ze in een vreemde nieuwe wereld beland: New York City. Ze zijn vastbesloten Amerika te veroveren, letterlijk fan voor fan!
